Happy Summer Time

Swanton Berry Fram

Swanton Berry Farm is a place I frequently stop by
when Thomas is kitesurfing at Waddell Creek Beach
(which is like every weekend). This is one of the
great coffee (and other goodies) stop on Highway 1.

Founded in 1983, the Swanton Berry Farm became
the first certified organic strawberry farm in
California in 1987. The farm offers pick-your-own
berries when in season.

Different kinds of Swanton's goodies are
available at the store depending on the season.
There is a jam tasting station where one can
try out their assortment of berry jams. Several
kinds of simple homemade style desserts are also
available. The cobbler is one of our favorites.

Jam tasting station!
There are no staff manning the cashier so it's
a honor system. Place the money you pay into
the cash pan. Big bills goes into the slot.
Table and sofa are available indoor
and outdoor for general picnic.

Pro tips:
The farm grows vegetable during winter season and
(sometimes) sells a hearty veggie soup available
only during winter. I grab a bowl everytime.

Bring a jacket or windbreaker, the coast is
always chilly and windy even during summer.

Simple Smoked Salmon Avocado Sandwich

I often have no idea what I'm going to
have for my next meal, so creativity and
Pinterest often helps. And today's random
lunch was a success and even the bees
agreed, proof is in the end of post. :)

Avocado Smoked Salmon Sandwich

Ingredients:
Smoked Salmon
Avocado
Bread
Feta Cheese (optional)
Spices (optional)

I say optional ingredient because... well, use whatever
is available to you :) Eat as you please dear.
Avocado was used as a base. I love avocado
to begin with, it is to replace mayonnaise
or butter. Feta cheese goes on top.
Next up is smoked salmon plus the avocado
leftover. I sprinkled this yeast seasoning
generously because I can't get enough of this
nutty flavor seasoning.

And enjoy! Even the bees like avocado!

Halu Restaurant

Halu is a restaurant I have been wanting to try out for years,
but haven't been to due to long wait line another other delicious
offerings in the Inner Richmond district.

I just wrapped up a conference and was major hungry and in SF
at 6pm on a Thursday night, it was perfect timing to make
my tribute to Halu.

Opened in 2008, Halu is a Japanese izakaya restaurant
filled with memorabilias collected by the restaurant
owners (a rock & roll music loving Japanese couple).

The kitchen is right behind the bar. Even though it's
grill food, I did not walk out smelling like bbq. Extra points.

I usually don't care for chain theme restaurants, but I'm
totally intrigued when it's a genuine collection like Halu's.

Let's get to the food portion of the program, shall we?

The "EricChan" ($6.50)(lol, nice name) is such a simple
yet yummy savory snack. It's pan fried butter soy mochi
wrapped in toasted seaweed. It's crispy on the outside
of the rice cake and soft & chewy as you bit into it.

It's quite fulfilling if you eat all two pieces (1 order).
I'm tempted to try making this at home.

I opted for the Yakitori Omakase dinner ($19.50) and
the lady let me substitute gizzard as one of the skewers.
My mouth is watering as I write this post. The gizzards
were nicely marinated and season. The stuffed mushroom
was juice and flavorful. The okra was super fresh, each
seed is like crunchy bead that pops in your mouth.
I also recommend the chicken wings.

The beef tongue was only ok because taste wise
it didn't stand out from the other skewers.

I would definitely come back and try out other menu items.
Halu is also a great place for gathering with up to 6 people
in your group, mainly due to the small size of the restaurant.
